About Us

Background

Sambane AJT Mining & Logistics (Pty) Ltd, a proudly 50% women-owned company, was established in 2008 by three visionary entrepreneurs who identified a market gap. They focused on supplying crushed granite for the upgrading of the N17 road between Ermelo and Oshoek, supporting the local building trade industry.

This initiative aligned with the announcement of a critical need to revive and expand South Africa’s railroad system, aiming to reduce further damage to roads caused by heavy trucks in newly developing areas. A suitable mining site was carefully selected, and permissions were secured from the Enikwakuyengwa Traditional Council and the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) to extract the granite.

An environmental study, conducted by the Council for Geosciences, has been completed, ensuring sustainable practices. The granite was analyzed by Lab Consult Ermelo and Soilco in KwaZulu-Natal, with detailed material characteristics and sieve analysis confirming its suitability for road, rail, and construction projects. This foundation highlights Sambane AJT’s commitment to quality, reliability, and community-focused mining and logistics solutions in South Africa.

Organisation Structure

Sambane AJT Mining and Logistics CC is a registered entity with CIPRO, ensuring legal compliance and credibility in South Africa. The company is led by two shareholders who also serve as board members, providing strategic oversight. The CEO heads the management team, supported by a qualified and experienced mine captain, foreman, finance officer, and safety officer, collectively managing operational units with expertise and efficiency.

Additionally, an experienced blasting company, an engineer, environmentalists, and other technicians are subcontracted as needed under prearranged agreements. These partnerships operate under the guidance of the (government) Council for Geoscience, ensuring high standards in mining and logistics operations.

Competitive Advantage

Sambane AJT Mining & Logistics stands out with its 50% ownership by previously disadvantaged individuals (HDI) women, boosting its performance in tender processes and BEE procurement levels. As a local company, we offer greater accessibility compared to competitors located 100km away from customers. Our proximity reduces transportation costs, making our aggregate per ton more affordable than competitors’ rates, where transport expenses often exceed material costs.

Currently, a 2-week backlog in aggregate delivery, driven by high demand and distance from rival suppliers, causes significant delays. These delays impose financial penalties on contractors and consultants due to project setbacks, giving Sambane AJT a clear edge with timely, cost-effective solutions.
